OK, I need your name, rank and serial number unt you vill ve SHOT AT DAWN! for your favourite / suitable fertilizers for...

My low tech tank, 1 watt / Gallon planted with:
Amazon Sword
Green Cabomba
Red Rubin Sword Plant (Yes, I know, I have already been slated for that choice)
(In a substrate of gravel / Laterite).

So guys and gals, some names please of good (UK) fertilizers I can add to my water.

OR

do I need 'root tabs', again if so, which ones?

Thanks peeps,

Andy

If you haven`t got high light and CO2 addition ferts could be a bad idea....what light you using and what CO2?

Root tabs could be a healthy option, but I Know Nothin`about um`

Ah...

No CO2 (way too damn expensive).
For my 15 Gal, 1off 15W Arcadia 'Freshwater' bulb - under advisement, I may add another.
Like I said, very low tech setup I'm afriad - but you gotta start somewhere (as of 8 weeks ago). :/

erm....... why?

Thanks Chris,

Andy

the reason why adding ferts can be a bad idea with low light levels and no co2 is because the plants won't use the amount of nutrients you add. extra nutirents will be used by algae and you will most likely have an algae bloom. in a low tech setup there is enough macro nutrients supplied through fish waste and fish food.

now I run a very low tech setup with 1.3 WPG. I also have sword plants. roots tabs are a very good addition for the plants in a lowtech setup. they don't contain any macro nutrients which can lead to algae blooms. another nice addition is a trace fertilizer such as seachem flourish or something of the similar that does not contain macro nutrients(N-P-K). trace fertilizers contain all the micros that are not supplied through fish waste/food, such as iron..etc. Also a substrate can be very good in a lowtech setup, but its a pain to change substrate if your already established.

anyways goodluck i hope this helped

The tropica plant nutrition is generally regarded as the best fert you can get and adding that weekly would be ok in a low tech tank.
