I have a 35.5litre tank that currently houses 4 male guppies ( who all get along fine and dont pick on each other) 4 male swordtails ( who are the same size as the guppies i think they are fully grown cos the are a year old now they were the fry from one of my female swordtail they just havnt grown properly) and 5 algae shrimp. Tank still looks a bit bare asa i used to have 12 guppies in there as well as the swordtails. Could i add any thing else to the tank i would love some tetras. The tank has been set up for over a year now and has an under gravel filter and a fluval one plus filter. Never had any problem with nitrite rising in the last 6 months. NITRITE currently 0, AMONNIA is also 0. Thanks :D

I don't think you should add anything else... a 35.5 L tank converts to a 10 gallon tank, rounding up. ;) Remember, the guidelines are 1 inch of adult fish per gallon.

So for your tank you could safely house 10 inches of adult fish.

Guppies grow to about 1.5 inches each... 4 of those is already 6 inches. Then you've got 4 swordtails who you say are the same size as the gups, so that's another 6 inches... so far we're up to 12 inches for a 10 gallon tank, not counting the shrimp.

I don't think you should add anything else even if your readings are fine, just concentrate on the fishies you have, and stay on top of water changes so your fish don't get sick. :)

If it is more fish you want it will be better if it is ok to get another tank. It allows fish more room to swim etc.

Thanks for the replies i have an empty Tropical Biorb ( 30 litres ) would i be able to put some tetras in that if i set it up again if so how many.

Definitely another tank! MTS strikes again! Those swordtails should grow to about 4 inches, if properly fed and exercised (i.e. with room to swim around). Female guppies can easily hit 2 inches, though males are more usually 1-1.5 inches. I wouldn't add anything else, but if you are able to get another bigger tank transfer the swords to that and keep guppies and/or small tetras in this one.
