Hi everyone, I was wondering how treating an entire tank with melafix would effect the other fish who are not injured. Is it deadly at all to fish who dont need to be treated?

i'm no expert, but it hasn't been to any of mine so long as you don't overdose. i've heard that some fish, such as bettas, have had bad reactions to it, but again, mine haven't.

i use melafix on my fish

see sig for details....really no side effects i notice...honestly with the melafix hit the water n the bubbles the fish love swimming through it... i noticed

Funny this topic should arise. I used Melafix for the first time in my fish-keeping lifetime this morning and both my puffer's seem a little inactive - on the bottom of the tank. I overdosed every-so slighty because of me being in a rush, but it was every-so slight. It'll be interesting to see the effects.

Overdosing with Melafix can be deadly to fish sensitive to it, be warned. It's a great product if used correctly, but I usually UNDERdose when using it, just to be safe. I lost a couple of bettas when I first started fishkeeping to Melafix, it will make them lethargic and pale if it is effecting them. All those bettas had was finrot to start with, so obviously it was the Melafix that killed them.

Melafix will find its way to the surface of the water like many other DOC's, it will form an oil like slick on the top wich will inhibit airflow and could wallop any fish that takes a breath of it (like a betta that does not stick its mouth far enough out of the water when filling its labrynth) other than that most things with livers do just fine with teatree oil.
