What Does It Mean When Males Have Vertical Bars?

As Lune has always has these bars.....and they are always on the gills!

if they are restricted to his gills, most likely just his coloration. as long as acting normal, swimming about and eating, nothing to worry about.

my male betta has the same thing but they are dark red and hes red i thought it was just his colouration
