im still setting up my 3ft 35g tank.

first im gonna get the lighting

then the plants

then the fish, but it doesnt hurt to plan ahead.

so,so far heres are my idea's for fish:

3 pictus cats(or just one even though there better in 3)
a pair of rams

....thats all i got so far but im asking you guys for other suggestions of what else to add?

colorful and cool is what i like.

suggestions?

I don't know much about pictus but have heard they will eat small fish and fry when full grown although should be alright if all your fish are bigger than 1inch;

The rams should be ok too although i have heard they can get a bit agressive if they pair up for breeding.
Otherwise, i see no issues at all as long as you cycle the tank(preferably via a fishless cycle, find more info on the pinned articles in the beginners section), although these fish aern't realy my area of knolege so correct me anyone if i have said anything debatable.

How about some large corys like bronze, albino or peppered ones? They will need to be in a group though, and prefer very fine gravel or sand substrate the best.

yah maybe some gourama's might work but when ppl look into my tank i want them to be like "what the hell is that?"

I think i have it all figured out for what and what my ideas are:

....how about
a pair of bolivian or blue rams
3 pictus cats
a pair of firemouth cichlids
some khuli loaches
and maybe a school of tiger barbs?

im not 2 sure uet but im scared that the firemouths might destroy everyone else.

anyone have any other suggestions? im looking for either very colorful fish or intresting ones like the khuli loaches.

firemouths would be overdoing it. they really need be in a bigger tank and i think they are better in a species only tank.

ive never owned khuli loaches but i have heard that they are great fish. need to be in small groups. and make sure you have a sand substrate because they like to burrow.

tiger barbs are fin nippers so they might find pictus cat's whiskers a little appealing if you know what i mean. dont quote me on that though, im not sure.

bolivian rams are supposidly hardier than german blue. both very similar fish.

HTH :)

alright then how about.....
pictus cats(maybe just 1)
bolivian ram pair
khuli loaches
and.......donno yet
