I love the sand i have (fine white silica sand), IMHO(in my honest/humble opinion) its easier to keep clean as waste doesn't get trapped inbetween it like it does with gravel, but because of this it can look bad if you have fish that poop a lot and the poop is just lying on top of the sand (on the other hand though, this makes it easier for the filter to suck up the waste) .

I prefer sand and don't clean it. I siphon water change.

The filter has a spraybar which points to the fron horizontally, the current gets to the glass, then goes down, then goes to the sides, then to the back before up again, therefore all the pop goes to the sides and back, which is where all the plants are.

Plus I have loads of MTS

Ive just replaced all my sand with pea gravel. Sand is a royal pain in the arse.

i love sand, i have gravel in one tank sand in the other, sands cheaper, easier to clean and looks nicer.
I like the black gravel in my other tank but sand stills gets my vote

sand looks better and more natural, dirt can be seen, so you know when its dirty and needs a clean, most fish like it, and more have it in their natural enviroment. it can have live worms one top, without them sinking between the gravel.
on the other hand, gravel comes in a range of colors, good to grow plants in, and can look nice in the right set-up

Never had much luck with sand, after a few weeks my fish get sick without any real reason. Also the water seems to always have a light cloud to it.I do have sand in one tank but its pool filter sand with some big gravel mixed in and loads of MTS.I still may change it back over to gravel although its the most stable sand tank I have had.
