What do you look for in a fish store?

First and foremost is the condition of the tanks - clean, not terribly overstocked, no dead fish. If those things are present, I feel pretty sure that the staff at least knows how to care for their fish.
Second is how knowledgable they are and can they answer my questions. As a relative newbie, I need good advice. I generally ask some questions that I do know the correct answer to and see how those are handled.
Price really isn't a big problem. I'm definitely not made of money but I don't mind paying a little more at a LFS that I trust and know takes good care of their fish.
These are all the reasons I always by my fish at Walmart......NOT.

I've thought it'd be handy if it was possable to buy filters that had already got a large amount of bacteria on them. Most places use undergravel filters though due to cost. It'd seed the tank with it and make it so much quicker (although using Cycle I've nearly finnished my 21gal in just over 2 weeks. It's not done yet but I'm near the end. When I'm done I'll post the full results so people can decide for themselves how good it is, there is already a cycle with fish posted in the newbie forum).
That was actually something Dan had mentioned... keep pieces of filter sponge or floss in each tank so that it's seeded with bacteria, and sell that.
I've never seen an LFS use undergravel.. -_- Always sponge, sump, wet/dry, or whatever the hell they're running at Petsmart.

Have I gone loopy? Wasn't there some posts on here from a guy who wanted to open up a fish store? I could have sworn that I made a post in here (before this one) but now it's missing.

There was an off topic conversation going on that was moved to the mod's forum. If you wish to discuss your future career, please start your own thread in General Talk.

That way other members can enjoy the topic as it was intended, and you can talk about your topic without getting in each other's way. :D

Oops. Sorry about the gender confusion. I have a bad habbit of assuming people are guys. I don't know why I do that.

Thats wierd. I wonder why they deleted those posts.

edit.

I dont think it was really talking about careers - at least it was fish related. I think its interesting to read that someone around here is thinking of starting their own shop. We can give our imput then.

Oh well. What's done is done.

It's interesting that this thread gets edited for off-topic-ness and others don't. I've seen several go far off topic, this is one of the few that I've ever seen edited.

Pardon me for saying I'd take into consideration what members were looking for, and mentioning a few ideas. It's what I personally would look for in a store as well, so I'd thought it seemed worth sharing.

I look for good fish, and a good staff. Usally I go to my friends work and get buy 2 get 1 more. :) Many threads go off topic.
