Well i currently have a VT male and a PK female in a divided tank temporarily.
But they have taken a real interest in each other naturally.

The male will make big bubble nests and the female will boldly display and show off to him.

Out of curiosity, what would the cross make?
Google images was not my friend with this.

Thanks

you just get a small amount of shorter tail VT and most of them will be VT

Ah okay, not to worry.
Im saving her for a giant PK, when i do get hold of one.

Shes a nice big plump female, and only very young and very bright red.
One of The Betta Lady's actually - thanks again Shell =]

a giant? can normal bettas spawn with giants?

cause a true giant is 3 inches from nose to the body base of the tail,, and even a real big female pk will only get maby 1 1/2 inch,, but by that point might be too old to breed??
and in my experence a very large male has a lot of troble wraping a small female, to the point that i had to choose another ,, older female to breed with my mature ct???

mehh maby it work ,, i dunno

I was actually researching about this online recently. I read that to get giants, they just take giant and breed it to a large regular betta. Then breed the largest of that spawn back to the giant parent. Once the size is achieved, they breed for tail and colour.

It is true, Giants can and are regularly bred with your average betta. The great majority of the babies become half-gaints, where they are bigger than your average betta but not a true giant. You of course also sometimes get a very few average and true giants out of the babies because of genetics. That is why you need to be careful when buying a ‘true giant’, you may just be getting a young half giant.

Also my female PK in question is a whopping 2 inches already (1.75 inches body), and she is only 3 months old. I am hopping shes going to become a ‘big girl’. Which of course helps and is important when breeding her with a giant!

Going back to the original question, you will get mainly Roundtail Fry from a VT PK mix and the rest will be VT.

From the experience i have had with Giants its the body length only that is measured. A true giant will have the body length of 3-4inches. You may find that your VT male will find it hard to wrap and fertilise properly as she is much larger than him and if you was te reverse it and use a giant male on a regular female he would probably crush her. Its tricky but if you want to breed giants i would stick with half giants and full giants in your breeding programme to save any injury on the regular sizes.

When breeding giants to non-giants, the giant should be the male because a regular sized male would find it difficult to wrap a giant female. And, no, the giant male will NOT crush the female. When bettas wrap, it is merely an embrace to encourage the female to drop her eggs. The male is not squeezing the eggs out of the female. She stands no worse of a chance of getting harmed than any other spawning. There is still the chance of aggression damage as with any other spawn.

I know of, and over a long long time of breeding have seen, this happen. There is an element of presure there to get the eggs out which is also why you can some times see slight bruising on the female, I had a white CT that used to get effected this way. So please not need for the capital attitude in your reply as i have studdied these fish and do know something about them. Thanks
