hey folks, as some of you may know got my first 8 fish. 4x sp.44 and 4x yellow labs, cant get any more just now so will have to wait till start of new year to get the next lot. i am feeding them new life spectrum cichlid pellets twice a day. i have seen some people also feeding cichlid flakes and things like cucumber or peas. i realy just want to give them the best diet possible.
cheers,
james

nls is very good food with no need to add treats as it contains everything your fish once a day would be enough tho imo

Ive been told that cichlid exel by hikari are Brilliant but mine just wont touch it.
After an accidental feeding of king british cichlid flakes (for american cichlids) i found they love them. Trouble is they really dont want bloat.

i feed my mbuna fish prawns prawns eggs cod caviar jmc protein powder spirulina flake and tropical malawi flake also oceon nutrition cichlid mix i like to varey there diet

You obviously dont realise that mbuna are mainly vegi's. Feeding them to much protein is not good for them. In the wild they graze on algae etc. Spirulina flake is always a good choice and then perhaps brine shrimp every now and then or NLS.

Only a matter of time before bloat sets in with that diet!!

Mine get ciclid flake, ciclid pelets, fresh cucumber, and leaf lettuce. I do the fresh vegis a couple times a week and use the flakes as a standard I just try to find ones with spirulina towards the top of the ingrediant count.

some poor food choice advice going on here

After a late re-read i realise that looks bad. I dont feed them american cichlid flakes but they loved them the 1 time. Sperinula flakes and hikari exel sticks are what you want

im guessing this dude pauladair1994

You are feeding them a protien rich diet, exactly the opposite of what they need / should have. If you dont want bloat then dont feed them all the extra crap that you are.

i would hardly call it crap is spirulina not full of protein u must b an expert on feeding cichlids ru

Yes it is full of protein which is exactly why you should not be feeding them all the extras as they get enough from Spirulina. The type of protein you dont want to give them is animal protein which is exactly what you are giving them. Frozen foods should also (in my opinion) be used sparingly if at all.
