What Do You Feed Your Cockatoo Cichlid (Apistogramma Cacatuoides)

Hey

i should be getting some of these if my fish shop can get them next thursday i have done alot of reading about them but wondered what do you feed yours?

My cockatoos like flake, small cichlid sinking granules, and frozen brine shrimp and blood worms. Not to picky. I will say the male is sometimes so busy being a hotshot guy, flashing his finnage especially at my angels, that he misses food. But he looks good and healthy so not too worried.

thank you also will they eat my 2 apple snails? if so i can just move them over to my other tank

My male is about 2 inches nose to end of tail. My female is quite a bit smaller. Neither have paid any attention to my amano shrimp nor my nerite snails which I think are similar in size to the apple snail. Now I've heard when they get bigger it is a possibility as they are cichlids.

can i ask what sinking granules you use please? i have had a look around for a bit and just wondered

Sure. I'm using the TetraCichlid Mini Granules. I have to do this because my congo tetras are so food focused that very little flake gets to the bottom. My apistos stay near the bottom of the tank.

Mine happily take bloodworm, flake, Malawi mix (frozen stuff), tubifex, cichlid pellets. They eat pretty much anything you put in. But mine seem to prefer it when I do bloodworm.

well i ordered some Tetra Prima Mini Granules and i feed my fish tetramin flakes, frozen cyclops and a frozen veggie food mainly for plecos but everything eats it lol i also put cucumber and sinking wafers in for my bristlnose and apple snails which also gets eaten by everything else lol!

so hopefully that will be enough variety also going to start getting live bloodworm from my fish shop when i get the cichlids so add more variety that way and then when i finally get around to my guppy breeding (cant stop reading about it it facinates me) i will be getting baby brine shrimp which i can also add in to the community tank

i got 2 i got 2 from fish inc in sheffield they look amazing! fell in love with them when i saw them they are alot smaller than i imagined to

They're often less than an inch when you get them, sometimes around half.
