My platy had 25 fry two weeks ago, and they are doing really great! :) What can I do with all of these fry? I can probably take three more fish in my first tank, my friend who just got an aquarium is going to take two, and I may get a second aquarium and take three more. I really don't want to have to euthanize 17 fish, but there is no local fish store that will buy them, and my parents don't want me to put the fish on an auction site. Please help!

its gunna have to be a case of allowing the fish you cant keep to defend for themselves in the main tank and see if nature takes control of the situation, when keeping fry , consideration of what happens to them when larger must be used otherwise this is what happens. sorry!

When I had 30 molly fry last summer, none of the lfs's would purchase them or give me credit--but they would adopt them!! I "donated " a bunch because I didn't have enough room to keep them all and didn't want to cull them. See if any of your lfs's want any. -W. :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:

Yea, just give them to the store to adopt and show them your water parameterscin the test tube so they can see for themselves that your tank is clean and healthy.

Alternatively, post in the buy, sell, swap area and ask for collection only.

It is really annoying when your fish make loads of healthy babies and you can not do anything with them :(

I had similar problem couple of weeks back . I found 9 red swordtail frys one fine morning and separated them in a breeder trap. I called almost all LFSs and even put up an add in ebay but found no response in next 5-6 days . I finally put all the frys back in the tank and all of them were eventually eaten. It was a very painful decision but I had no other choice.

I will probably take some water to petsmart (unless any of you happen to know of a local fish store in Charleston), and prove that my water is good. Maybe, if I'm really lucky, and they are out of sunburst platies, will accept a 'gift' of platies.

Petsmart's policy is usually that they cannot accept fish from the public. Petco on the other hand will adopt fish. What about listing your fish in the local classified ads or something similar?

Well, I can't post them in the local classifieds b/c I just want to give these fish away, and ads are expensive. I can't go to Petco, because the nearest one is 75 miles away in a tiny town. But thanks for the suggestions!

do a listing on ebay, work out how much it would cost you just to list them, put them on at a starting price of that amount whatever it will be, add pick up onlyand cash on collection to it, say on the listing that this is no joke as you just wanna find good home for the fry. if you can put them down as buy now for that price, they will defo sell. that way your cost for listing them is covered and intelligent people will see that its a bargain not to be missed, if they dont sell i'll be very surprised. good luck

you could also go on to craigs list. they have a pet and a free section and it doesn't cost anything to put them on.
good luck.
