Okay to start off w/ my tank has been up for a year and every plant that i put in it has passed on :( so after starting my saltwater tank i started to realize the importance of water changes ect.... before i was only keepin an eye on the ph so anyways checked the amonia, tates and trites and well the nitrates hit the roof so I have done some water changes (regurally now) and they are down to about 60 so I was thinking about trying another hardy plant. what nitrates should i keep my water at to keep the fish and plants happy. right know i only have a florsent watt on it its a 29g and was goin to add another 10g florestent light that was givin to me any suggestions? will a plant survive or do I need to make more improvements?

some plants you can try are crypt wendtii, most crypts, water wisteria, water sprite, most stem plants. Those would do good. once you get over 3 watts per gallon CO2 is going to more than likely be needed. It's mainly a trial and error thing with plants. You should keep the nitrates between 5-10ppm. This is safe for plants and fish. Higher than that and you can get into some trouble, fish get sick and what not. Rose
