Well I have a 75 gal, and it is a good size allowing for mistakes and such for a beginner.
RedSea canister filter, very efficient.
Prizm protein skimmer, if u saw what it removed in 1 day, you would never imagine being without one! Essential for corals.
If u want corals, u will need very good lighting, at least 3 watts per gallon for most corals. This will run at least $250.
Good heater, about anything will work, just ask ur LFS their favorite.
Powerheads for movement of water, once again especially corals, removal of the stuff they constantly secrete and it just keeps things healthier, plus the protein skimmer removes the stuff the powerheads move around so waste doesnt accumulate.
A sump would be a good idea, but another $200.
I have coralife lighting and it it about 3.46 watts per gallon, but i dont keep anemones because i just see them as a hassle as because they can move around and kill other corals but n e way, anemones require high lighting, i believe around 4.5-5 watts/gal at least so id research that before buying the light. As i said mine was 3.46 watts per gallon and was about $250 so im not sure about how much more itd b for higher lighting.
Dont let the cost scare you please! It is such a rewarding hobby, and it just sucks when people say no because of the cost, because if u r knowledgeable and do TONS of research, just wait and save money! U can buy pieces of equipment little by little and have everything WELL CYCLED before the next big investment of fish anyway.
