i just bout a tetratest Laborett kit that has multiple tests in it, but i remember reading somewhere that i need to purfy my water somehow before i put it in my tank.

to shorten this question,

how do i fill my tank, just pour the water in and follow regular cycle procedure or what?

you need to dechlorinate the water, this removes the chlorine from the water that will kill off the bacteria that you are trying to grow in the cycle process

can i do that with the water in the tank or do i have to do it to every bucket load i put in?

also i have well water and i think i read that well water has no chemicals in it

can someone give me just a little advice, i wana start filling my tank soon.

im just looking for very basic instruction

Is this a brand new tank set-up i.e. no fish yet and brand new filter sponges and gravel?

If so you can just fill the tank with water and then add the dechlorinater (as per the dosage sheet).

You don't even really need to put dechlorinator in at this point as the water will age and gradually get rid of the chlorine, but you cycle may take a little longer.

As for you well water, I'm unsure bud.

yes this is brand new everything exept the tank, its acrylic 50 gallon used but clean, brand new leaves, gravel, pumps, filters, everything

im just nervous cuz i heard the first water is the most important part in a new tank, my well water runs through a softner in my house and im not sure what it has in it or any chemicals that may be in this water, i dont wana have it full ( which it almost is now ) and find out i need to do something to the water?

I take it that the well water is the only water you have?

I.e. Your tap water is your well water?

If so, is it possible for you to bag some water up and take it to an LFS and explain to them your concerns and see if they can test it fully.

Gee
