What do fish do after lights out?

Apparently- sink in the water- and I WOULD SWEAR turn pale!!

Ever since I got one of my neons he seems to take leave of his senses at night and I put the tank light on mornings to find him practically standing on his head- he soon regains his bearings and is 100% normal during the day.. strange!

Yes, some fish do go more pale in colouring at night/in the dark.

I would think that would be to hide them selves from the nocturnal preditors... if their colouring isn't bright and flashy, they can't be found.

I have a video camera with night vision on it, so once my water clears up I'm going to watch them one night when I am up late.

When tank lights go out for me, my plecs realy get out and about and give the tank glass a good clean and search for any algae wafers or catfish pelets lying around for them. My platys just kind of hang out with each other lying low in the planted areas of the tank, but my 2 female mollys are actually quite active and chase each other around the place a bit(not in a nasty way mind you, they have been best buddys for a year now and are inseparable :) ).
My peppered and panda corys get realy busy though and start filtering through the substrate alot, which they don't do very much of during the day- my para plec also comes out from under his bridge and starts scavenging for leftover food too like the other fish. My albino corys just play with each other alot at nights out ;)

we have moonlights on our tanks - to see just what they get upto :)

The tanks are just as active at night with all of out plecs and clown loaches and other catfish out and about.

Plecs are great fun to watch at night - they arnt the boring poo machines they would have you think ;)

After lights out, corys ride the filter current, sometimes an otto joins them. Neons hang out by the plants and chill. Gourami goes in the log and chills.

In the big tank, nightime is when the pleco can come out and have a field day cleaning decorations. If I sit quietly with just a lamp on in the room I can watch the plec sail around the tank. The black phantoms spend a lot of time riding the bubble bar in the dark. It's the only time I see them much. They are still shy.

for the most part they all hang out at the bottom of the tank on the right side, unles of couurse i approach the tank. Though the gauramis seem to getting a bit more agressive with each other so it wouldnt surprise me if they are starting to divy up thier territory now. Ill have to start dropping shrimp pellets on both sdes now.

2 dawrf honey gauramis
5 neon tetra
2 cory cats
