I get my new fish on Friday for my comunity tank and then i think thats basically done :).. Sit back and enjoy it

So what should i do for my next challenge? Something to look forward to and save up for, I was thinking of Angel fish.. I know they need quite a large tank though!

Any tips, ideas and advice?

Anyone else looking to start a new challenge feel free to join in this thread :)

I'm thinking of completely changing my whole stock ( livebearers)

Don't get me wrong I love my Molly's platy's ect but I've recently got a blue spotted gourami and I love it plus I'm starting to like betta's but I can't have them together sadly plus where I have a rio 400 I don't want to have a fairly large tank with hardly any fish as it will look bare so I'm thinking of just having a mixed gourami tank but unsure of the numbers I can hold in my tank

Sounds exiting basboi :), Sure someone will be able to answer your numbers question!

Im not to sure what size tank i need for Angel fish to be honest :/

A four foot (length) x 12" (width) x 18" (height) would be the minimum size for angels, IMO.

Some people do 3'x12"x18", but that's suitable only for a breeding pair, again IMO.

Flutter, Would you say this tank would be ok for Angels?

No; the width and height are fine, but two foot is too small for angels; they do need some length for swimming!

As I said, some people do keep them in a three foot tank (I have done myself), but that is really too small in the long term.

Ok, What about this? :)

I've just bought one and it's fantastic, really very good quality. Their price for a 48x21x12 (LxHxW) is only £79.

I built my own stand from 18mm mdf. Got B&Q to cut the sheet so all the pieces where exactly the right size and screwed it together into a nice solid custom stand.

As per a tip from another member here will seal the mdf with a pva glue / water mix.

Cheers

I'm seriously impressed with mine. I got the 48x18x15 and its lovely. Delivery to Sheffield was only £20 and they deliver the tanks themselves - not by courier.

For the price really can't fault it. Triple braced and with the second sheet of glass at the bottom as well.

Cheers

Thats great :) I've just emailed them to ask how much it will cost to deliver to Essex. Still not to sure what to do with the stand though, Great idea you gave me but im crap at building stuff! lol

What will you be putting in your tank mate?

Let me know how you get on. I found they got back to me quickly with everything I needed to know.

Honestly its not that difficult to build. Basically I two pieces cut so they are just a little wider than the tank (as luck would have it the sheets are 1220mm wide x 2440mm long and 1220mm is the length of the tank) and then 5 pieces cut for the uprights (in my case 600mm high so the filter fits underneath and then the same width as the top and bottom piece).

4 pilot holes top and bottom for each upright and a bag of screws later and hey presto, a stand. MDF was £19, free cutting and £3 for the screws - bargain. The only thing is as the screws are 100% flush with the top and bottom pieces a sheet of polystyrene is essential otherwise the tank would shatter!

Next thing to build is a lid, some 5mm ply for that, a tin of varnish and some LED strip lights - a set of white for the day and then a pair of (much smaller) strips of blue LED's for the night.

As for stocking I'm looking at keeping it quite simple. a shoal of x ray tetras, a shoal of black widow tetras and a shoal of black phantom tetras to give a nice black and silver tetra theme (I'm a particular fan of the black phantoms). Then a pair of dwarf gouramis for a splash of colour. At the bottom a nice shoal of cory sterbais - lovely lovely fish. Finally a bristlenose plec to finish things off.

Cheers
