i really need a new algea eater! i had 4 oto's in my 55gal but misteriously 2 disappeared and 1 died. i wanted to try something else that won't get too big.

i have 1 rainbow shark, 1 angel, 2 guppies, 1 oto, and tomorrow i will maybe get around 6 tiger barbs and maybe a algea eater later on the week if someone could reccomend one!

thanks

Bristlenoses are great algea eaters and only get to about 5". They are a great community fish and wont bother the other tank mates.

bristlenose pleco maybe, they grow to 5 inches

it depends what you consider big...
otherwise, under 3 inchez there isn't much choice besides otos. maybe american flag fish?

Oto's prefer a matured tank of six months plus, so get some more to keep yours company once (if its a new tank) its matured.

A bristle nose plec would be good and don't get huge. Rainbow sharks, never kept them, but they are terratorial I seem to recall, but I think the BN would cope, just don't get a tiny one.

The TB's may nip your angels fins.

Steer clear of fish called Algea loaches, golden algae loaches or chinese algae loaches. They are nasty once they get older and grow much bigger than you think they will.

i can add sucking loach to that, i was fobbed off with 3 and they do nothing but cause trouble. killed a few of my fish...

Bristlenose Plec sounds your best bet, extremely efficient algae eaters and compatible with most fish.
