I have had a 10g tank set up for about three weeks now. When I glanced at it today I noticed everything was covered in this white, hair-like fuzz. It was very slimy and brushed away easily. What could it be that appeared so suddenly? Some form of algae? Any help is greatly appreciated.

This does not sound like any sort of algae, rather it sounds like some sort of bacterial activity growing on organic matter. Does the water smell off? How are you filtering? What is the water temperature? How is the tank stocked?

Since it's a 10 gallon tank and only been running about 3 weeks, we need a little more info...

What kind of fish are in the tank?

What kind of filter?

How long have you had the fish in the tank?

How often do you do a gravel vac?

How often do you do a water change? How much?

What kind of lighting? How long do you leave the lights on?

Water parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH) could help too, but not essential at the moment.

Could you post a pic?
