Hi all, i may have another cichlid question for another tank in the near future but my main one for now is as follows.

Im setting up a 30 Gallon community and was wondering about a centrepiece fish/fishes, i thought about discus = too hard to keep, anglefish = maybe, not entirly my thing. so any other cichilids with a max size of around 5-6" (+ or - abit) that may suit, good looking always a help, interesting behaviour even better.

prob wont be any small fish in the tank like neons so it doesnt matter if he likes eating small fish.

Many thanks

how about some Dwarfs on the bottom (more bang for the size limits) and some angels on top maybe???? :D
there are plenty to choose from... ie nannacara anomola, apistogrammas, agazzazi, kribensis and countless others.

You could build a nice South American community around any of these in a 30 gal: Keyholes, Apistogramma, Rams. None of these are 5"-6" though.

How about a trio of Geophagus steindachneri? They are peaceful, arent to hectic when they breed and get to around 6" for males (females stay smaller at 4" or so).
If not then any of the other fish previously suggested would work well, especially keyholes.

I think a 30 gal would be too small for three grown Geo's Go with 2 Angels, and Blue Rams...

rainbow cichlid fit the size you want plus are pretty gentle(as far as cichlids go)

They would fit but they wouldn't be very happy. I keep rainbow cichlids and they're very active, and use up most of my 6ft tank - I think they'd prefer a bit more room for swimming tbh.

I intended the Geos to be on their own with some ditherfish and a catfish or too. Besides, where does chilledtim say he wants to keep angels and rams?
