I can finally get some more fish after i have had to move my tank twice in the last four weeks due to carpets being replaced.

Here are some quick tank specs.

28gallon
12-13 neons
1 Bristlenose
1 Guppy

Eheim 2026
Gravel substrate

Will be quite well planted as i should be getting a load of plants tommorw or Wednesday.

pH-7.2
KH-6 (roughly)
GH- 160 ish
Nitrate- 10

I am leaning towards a Male/Female pair of Bolivian Rams but i was wondering if you lot could sway me to buy something different.

Other fish which i am interested in are the Apistogramma cacatuoides and possibly a pair of Kribs however i do not think the Apistogramma cacatuoides would fare well in my hard water.

I preferally like a pair of fish as the centrepiece fish, any suggestions?

Blue rams. Small, Peaceful, and look great in a Planted tank

Any species of Apisto should be fine as long as they dont breed

Badis badis are cool  They are like little dwarf cichlids except they are not cichlids :p They are a small nandid that (depending on species) can get from .75"-3" in length :) They like live food or freee dried food that floats ;)

Blue rams, apistos and kribs all prefer the same water - softer and slightly acidic. However, if you get them from a local lfs, chances are that they're already acclimated to your water conditions so it's not going to be a problem.

I *may* be wrong, but I *think* that the apistos do better in 1:2 M:F ratios rather than pairs. I'd go with the blue or bolivian rams personally.

A centerpiece fish? How about a Banded Leporinus?
Keeping one in a 30 gallon should be fine for a while, ideally they hit a foot long. The only problem I see is some of your tetras may dissapear later on.

When it gets too big use it as a reason to get a 55 gallon.

Still a very cool fish, reminds me of that old SNL gig that Belushi used to do.

Edit:These do require water movement, a power head is recommended.

Thanks for the replies.

I see there are alot of suggestions for the German blue ram the only thing is though i dont like them as much as the bolivian ram for some bizzare reason.

Blue Lobster that is a nice looking fish but i can tell you now my parents will not let me have a larger tank anytime soon.

yur kiding right? that thing definately needs more than a 55. They are shoaling fish and they swim a lot. In a 55 a 12" fish would barely be able to turn around

One fish, not a shoal was what I said and I did add the need for a bigger tank in the future. So no, I wasn't kidding.

Remember, not all fish hit max size so a 8-9" fish in 55 gallons would be fine.
