Hi ,want to keep a betta in my 28l,what besides shrimp will live with them?

Bettas can go with a lot. Defo get a male as they look so much better. There are stunning imports you can go for online or your lfs will have some. Mine actually has some really gorgeous ones. Anything that isn't known for nipping can go with them as long as they don't have long flowing fins like guppys.

Other fish around the same size as your Betta should be fine.
You must also make sure the fish you put your Betta in with, are non-nipping fish, so they won't attack it.
Fish with long flowing fins, like other male Betta's or a Guppy are NOT suitable.
So basically, any fish with vibrant colours, long flowing fins and are known for nipping, are NOT suitable.
Go for something with bland colours (greys, white etc..).
Little sucking catfish work well, as they are nocturnal, and wont bother your Betta.
Danio's are quite good too.

Betta's do prefer to be by themselves though...
They can be placed in a tank with other fish, but they will be happier by themselves.

Hi ,thanks for all your replies,
can i keep neon tetra in with my betta and shrimp [in my 28l],if so how many?

The Betta will mostly get a bit stressed due to the Neon Tetras activeness.
Neon's love to swim fast around the tank, darting around the place all the time, which will stress out your Betta, as they are a fairly slow moving fish.
But, a way to help your Betta in this situation, is to have hiding places for it. A few plants and/or decorative caves etc, will do the trick.
There have been reports of Neon Tetras being a nipping fish (nipping at the fins of other fish), so keep an eye on that, but having some hiding places for your Betta will help that.
Most people would say, that a 28L/7G tank is too small for schools of Neon Tetra's, but personally, I think it should be alright, definetly no more than 5 Neon's in with a Betta for your tank.

Good luck!

Hi Maisy, nice to see you over here :good:

in a 28l tank i wouldn't put neons, i have had good sucess with endlers ans pygmy cories in a tank of this size.

is the tank long or tall? this will also effect what you can have

Neons are a risk; most are fine, but you get the odd one that gets nippy in a small shoal.

i do agree neons can be fine my partner has a group in his 12gal with a betta with no problems but in this sized tank i wouldn't risk it, you could try green neons though, they stay small :good:

Hi all ,thanks for your replies,my tank is 12x12,i`ve been advised that keeping 6 pygmy corries ,would be too much, and to only keep shrimp, but i want something besides a betta and shrimp in my tank ,will provide a hiding place though , but do they really eat the shrimp,oh,i thought they`d be alright with them?

Hi Marie ,what neons have you got in your tank ,and how many?

I have Cardinal tetra, they look very similar. But they are in my 60 litre with my female Maisy, I wouldn't have them in my smaller thank. Yeah shrimp are a risk tbh, mine got eaten.

Oh no,what a shame,were they amano,or freshwater shrimp,or smaller?

They were cherry shrimp but I must admit they were babies. You can try it. Not all Bettas would eat them

i have endlers with my male betta and they are fine, no problems at all...
