I had enough of this common brown alage that grows on my glass and all my plastic plants.

Some tank specs:

45-Gallon All Glass Aquarium
Two Aqua-Clear External 110 Power Filters, with double sponge inserts.
Aqua-Clear 70 Power Head

40% water change with gravel-vacs every 1-2 days.

My lighting is compact-floros from All Glass Company I think the bulbs are rated around 9200k.

The only fish is my Green Terror.

Yesterday I scrubbed the tank glass, actually replaced some of the fake plants with new ones because I just didnt want to scrub anymore plastic plants.

The only item in the tank left with alage is the plastic log which looks nice with alage on it.

I keep the blinds closed in the room to help prevent alage.

I was using a 6-hour light cycle but I think even that is to much and is still causing alage.

I do not want to use and chemicals to fight alage. The only chemical I use is Prime for my water-changes.

Sorry to keep ranting but lastly, I picked up one of those blue-led moonlight kits from CoralLife yesterday.

I just love it! Does the blue-light from the LED cause brown alage? I am starting to think I will use this light most of the time just to cut back on alage growth.

Thanks for reading! Gonna post some pictures tonight of the tank with the moonlight led.

I have it too in my new angelfish tank, clean, clean, clean. It is only thing you can do. All algaes go away by themselves, when they feel like it, just to be a pain in the but for us fish keepers. It can appear one day, last more months and then POOF gone after a water change.

diatoms are often seen in new tanks
this can be eliminated by increasing the light
either add more light of keep current lights on for longer.

Brown algae us typically due to a lack of light in new set-up, rather than too much (which is what you'd normally expect with algae I guess!). Increase the light - just increasing how long it's on for should be enough.

i have brown algae in one of my tanks
unfortunately it seems to have teamed up with some patches of green algae

BAH! it's only a 3 month old tank so it's to be expected.

just wait until i get my otos....

I agree that it's a question of lighting. It may be the type, as well as the duration that's causing the problem.
