hey everyone, i was wondering if there is anything i can breed that will be intresting. Ive breed convicts and kribs. I was very intrested in breeding sevrums, but i dont really know what to do. Also how can i get jelly bean parrots, isnt that like a cross between parrots and cons?? If anyone has any information it is greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU

avent heard of jelly bean parrots but parrot are said to be a hybrid between
sev's and midas...
unknown exactly but something like that!
hybrids are usually very differcult to breed, most males being infertile

sev's similar to cons but takes a little longer.
best advice i can give is find a true pair, often told it's a pair... which then turns out to be two male, females...

males have markings on their cheeks and nose not found on females
search google images and you'll soon pick up on what i'm talkin about!!!
best off gettin a fewsay five, small fish and lettin them pair of on their own

sorry bout th essay

i got a 12 gallon eclipse, 55 gallon, 38 gallon.
the 55 have some africans and parrots, the 38 has a couple peacock and 2 cons and kribs. also my arowanna is in there the 12 has nothing in it.

Sorry to get off topic, but you should tend to your arowana before thinking of breeding other fish to take care of -_- Arowana generally get to about 4' long, some larger, some slightly smaller. No matter the species, a twelve gallon is way too small for one. Unless you have a 180 gallon 6'x2'x2' tank, it would be best to return the Aro to the store :)

If your cons are a pair they will breed regularly ;)

yea im getting my 125 gallon tank to house my arowanna, dont worry, im not like the amatures that house an arowanna in a 10 gallon hhaha. Yea the cons have just breed, im thinking about severums.

Btw do u know that makes jelly bean parrots?

No, I'm not a fan of hybrids either.

The best way to get a pair of sevs is to start out with about half a dozen individuals, grow them out, and let them pair off. Then you keep one pair, set up the tank for breeding, and eventually you will get fry :)
A 55g is minimum for a breedig pair of Sevs, with no other fish (Both parents will actively defend their fry, at the expense of other fish)

I think that a temp of around 80-85 degrees with neutral pH and very clean water should result in a successful sev spawn. They will spawn on a rock (or other flat surface) and take care of the eggs. I've heard that patience is needed when you are breeding severums, so I guess they aren't the easiest cichlid to breed

Good luck with the Arowana, glad to here he won't be badly stunted :)

hey man, thank you very much, i greatly appreciate the information, and ill tell you how the breeding goes.

Jellybean parrots are dyed regular parrots. Their colors are not natural. There is some debate about what fish are bred to get parrots, but the general consensus is sevs/midas. That's why their temperament can vary WIDELY. Here's a link with good information on parrots.

From all my reading, sevs are not the easiest NWs to breed. They can be fairly difficult to sex and just b/c you have a male and female, they may not pair up. The best way to do it (same with angels) is to get a group of 6 juvy sevs and let them pair up naturally. Of course, then you have to do something with the other 4 - rehome or return to the lfs.

you can tell the sex of sevs at the size of about 3-4"
some are a lil harder but still pos.

never had much luck with angels, they say every1 one has one fish they cant keep! well ive got two angels, and orange chromides :-(

um parrots i tohught were sold as sterile?? Why don't you breed shrimp?
