Hi I know you must all be gettin tired of this lol but here goes:
I have a 20g planted tank with a sand and gravel substrate an apple snail some zebra danios and pearl gourami. I was wondering if anyone had some stocking suggestions for compatible almost gaudy fish lol as the colours of the fish i have are very subtle
thanx scot

You can add some scissortails or maybe a kullie loach :good:

the pearl gourami's gonna get a bit big for that tank in the future, they really want a 30gal.

there's absolutley loads of options of smaller fish though, are you looking for another shoal or a pair of 'feature fish' or what?

thanx for your reply
Im a bit worried now though lol as i did check on the forum that a pearl would be fine maxin out at four inches but thanx for the advice i will put it in another tank in a month or 2 to be on the safe side as its tiny at the mo and enjoyin the plants as its the most heavily planted tank ive got :good:

with regards to other fish im lookin for they can shoal school or be loners just lookin for advice and ideas b4 i get mezmorised by the fish shop and come home with somethin unsuitable as my lfs will do anythin for a sale but they keep the fish in good health and appropriate tanks (i think) so there ok to buy from
thanx scot :good:

hmmm i would have said pearl's max out around 5" and would like a bit more space.

we had some opaline gourami's which are v similar, i had them in a 30gal for a while and they were pretty lethargic and never did a whole lot, put them into our 60gal and they transformed into beautiful lovely interesting fish. I think gourami's are one of those fish that really thrive in a bigger environment.

best bet is to go to the lfs armed with a pen and paper but leaving your wallet and cards at home, write down the names of the ones you like and then come back and research them. :good:

what i'd suggest though is swapping out the pearl gourami for a pair of sparkling gouramis (much smaller and will thrive in a 20gal), their colours are subtle but beautiful.

then because the gourami's and danio's are both top swimmers look for maybe a trio of apistogramma or a shoal of cories which will give some movement at the bottom of the tank.

thanx again for the reply just checked the fish index to make sure i didnt make it up lol and it does say pearls max out at four inches could i add a pair of cribs?
:good:

no one source is infallible, do some more searching round and you'll get an overall consensus from multiple websites.

yeah i think a pair of Kribs could work, what's your pH? they're african cichlids and prefer a slightly higher ph

I have a pair of kribs in my 20 gallon tank. They are fine but they do like to chase other fish out of their territory. Especially when they have fry.

Check out the chain loach. they are a dwarf loaches. They school and will swim anywhere from mid to the bottome of the tank. They are active swimmers.
