im curious to what can go with jack demstey ... that they all had good experience with.. as i like to have more than just them ... its a 90 gallon tank one or 2 more different species would be great that is well with them

are you planning on just 1 JD or a group of them?

I'd suggest you get a group of large dithers like silver dollars, having a group of fish with the JD will dissipate any aggression issues.

you could go for 2/3 'feature' med-large cichlids including your JD, a group of dithers and group of large loaches like clowns.

Hi roseykat
What are the dimensions of the tank?
Also Is it just one JD you have? Are there any tankmates so far?

Firemouths and/or Convicts are probably the most commonly available cichlids that should be fine with a JD, a blue acara may also work,

Rocks are good with Jack Dempseys, thats about it, they can't destroy rocks. I wouldn't put silver dollars in there unless you want to give your Jack Dempsey an expensive lunch. They are very territorial and can pretty much take down anything you put near them, Oscars, Texas cichlids, Midas cichlids, and so on. The tank dimensions would help, but I'd suggest getting an armored catfish, something large out of the doradidae family. Maybe even a pair would be ok.

ok like i said its a 90 gal
four feet by two feet by two feet high ... i currently have
2 males jd
2 females jd (all the jd are currently 2 inches if that )
2 common plecos taht are about 6 inches now
4 clown loaches are currently 3 inches now got them at an inch half long htey grew some ...
i rainbow shark(4inches)
i do have tigerbarbs currently 2inches 8 but will move them as soon as i see signes of aggression i have a place for them
and 3 black ruby barbs ... i think i got them all oh one lone gourmies blue gourmy

which is also following the tb into the 30 gal i have for them .. in there is only 6 chearry barbs and 4 baby guppies and 2 cories left from 15 cories

So thats 4 Jacks, 2 common plecs and 4 clown loaches in the tank long term?

Imho you are bound to get problems with at least one of the Jacks and considering the adult size of all of your fish i wouldn't advise adding anything else apart from maybe a few more clowns or a small group of SA catfish.

4 x JD = 36inches
2 x common plecs = 24inches + depending on species
4 x clown loach = 24 inches +

well i know clowns take long time to grow that size, term wise im ok .. i will be getting another big tank for them .. and as for plec i will be giving one of them to my sister as soon as she has her long tank cycled long enough its a new tank few mths old she gonna keep it going long term wise,(from what i ve been told i will have to get rid of them eventually one of them..they will fight to the pt of death thats what ive been told i dont know if its true or not)though i would love to m ake a nice big pond in my yard to place them in .. long term wise

i only wanted to get one or 2 differnt species to get coloration wanted to know what will at least survive jd .. at most i will have to get rid one male jd from what i ve read not a plm my sister will take one ...

You got the dimensions or volumes wrong I think, 4x2x2ft is 120US gallons/100 imperial gallons.
I would rehome some JD's, if all pair up I don't think your tank will be big enough to handle the aggression. Also common plecs do grow too big for the aquarium too probably, they are some big ones at my LFS and they are like tanks.

funny i waas told from alot they were ok at most i would get rid one male to have ratio 2 fem to one male.. so far they already paired up and pair on side other pair on ioppetside ...
im not worried about plecs and others as we will be getting a 200 gal tank in a year two at the most they will be fine til then ...

as for my tank ok if thats what it is then thats what it is .. i know i measured with tape measure its 4ft by 2ft by 2ft

from what ive seen alot of people have a jd or 2 and few others i just wanted to find out which is the best suited with jd and that be that ... i have a filter ehiem that supposed to filter up to 150 gal so filterations is great ...

thanks for opinions
