Recently, I've been debating my impulse buy of my juvenile blue acara for my "community" tank (65 gallon). The man at the lfs (who has always given me good advice) said it would be ok, probably, as long as there wasn't anything small enough for him to eat. He said since it is a cichlid, it will always have a chance of being aggressive, but considering my tank size and current occupants, it should be ok. I also have a firemouth, and krib...along with some kuhlis, platys, a candy pleco, mollies, and danios (there are about two to three inches). The platys will probably have to moved, although they look big for platys, and possibly the danios, but they also look big to me....anyway off subject...sort of....

Can my firemouth and acara breed? I didn't want to chance getting breeders, so I only got one of each, but then remembered all those "mixed cichlids" I see in the lfs.

Has anyone else kept acara with non-cichlids? This has really been worrying me lately....should I looked into more beforehand... :/

The only fish that the acara may eat are the kuhlis, and BTW, you have some huge danios (Giant danios?)

I doubt that the acara and FM would breed, for now, just try to figure something out with the kuhlis, or the FM and Blue acara may suck them up when they (Cichlids) are bigger

I agree with Dwarfs. It would be very unlikely for a blue acara and a fm to breed and I'm pretty sure that the result of them breeding would not survive.
