Well, I went shopping at Petsmart (the nice one I got Oliver at) replacement Betta my friend had who died of severe fin rot last week (See http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...260086&hl=). Oh goodness! There was such a selection of nice Bettas, I just wanted to grab a bunch and go! Anyway, I saw this hunk and couldn't stop staring. I even suspect he's a spade tail. (Please excuse the bad photo- used my cell phone. :X)

As much as I wanted to take him home, I figured I had nowhere for him until Monday (when I will be putting him in my friend's tank). But now I'm antsy because I'm afraid he'll be gone before then! To prevent this, I want to head over to the store when it opens tomorrow and pick him up. One question before I do so- can I keep him in his little cup for a day (and what kind of a water change am I looking at?) or is there some sort of container (think rubbermaid and the like) that he can be kept until he goes to his new home?

Thank you all so much!

He could stay in his cup for a day or too without a problem. If you changed his water and added a triple dose of prime or some other ammonia neutrilizer he would be fine for a day w/o a water change. You could put him in any container that was used for food. Ice cream pail, Milk jug(cut off top), sour cream, ect...
Poke hole in the lid of the container, If you don't have a lid use some clingwrap with holes in it.

The best thing you could get for him is a clear plastic storage tub of the sort you get pretty much anywhere such as Walmart, Dollar store ect. Get one that's at least 12 inches in length width and depth, that will give you roughly six gallons and it will easily fit on a desk or table so there's no trouble for space.

Get the lid of the tub, and drill or cut a few holes in the top to allow air in to circulate with the water, and also cut a couple of holes out of the edge of the lid, so that the wires from a filter and heater can fit in nicely and you can press the lid on properly. You can add some cheap silk plants or a coconut cave or something for him to hide in and feel safe.

You can keep him in one of those as a permanent home, or if you're waiting a few days to set up a proper tank for him. The tub can just be packed away afterwards and kept for emergencies or as a hospital tank.

Well I ended up getting beat to picking that guy up :)sad:) so went hunting for another. Found a nice guy in their Betta barracks who was building a bubblenest, had beautiful flowing fins and flared when he noticed the Betta next to him through the slit in the barrack that makes water flow. My friend's favorite color is pink, and it was an added bonus that he's a pink with reddish fins and iridescent blue wash. :) Pics will be up soon! Anyway, he got fresh water in a cup when I purchased him so I have no worries about him being ok for the day. Thanks for your replies though everyone!
