i have/ will be getting:

3 x pseudotropheus crabbro
2 x astatotilapia CH 44
5 x labridichromis 'yellow'
5 x labridichromis 'white'

fluval 205 & eheim classic 2215, any reccomendations?

I wouldn't add the crabro to your 40gal tank if that's what you have in mind. They get up to 8" and the males can be very aggressive.

To answer your question, popular bottom feeders are most of the synodontis cat fish, bn plecs are also a good choice.

i dont really know much about african cichlids but i believe you can put a few kinds of loaches with africans if your tank size allows for them.

too late! they are a good 4"+ now, and are currently in with the astatotilapia. I'll have a look into the synodontis, trying to stay away from plecs if possible.

Why not take them back and see if you can get a refund? Crabro can get aggressive, as was stated, and it's totally NOT fair to the other fish that you put them in this situation. A little research before you buy can pay off in big ways.

You wouldn't have multiple people advising you this if it wasn't so.

Ok, I see in your journal you're going to take them back :good: All of the fish would thank you if they could :)

I have emailed the person who works there as they are closed now,

Do you think the Ps Flavus would be a better choice?

On your original question -- Synodontis all the way. I love them. Mine swims upside down at the top for flake!!

Flavus aren't going to work for your tank size either.

From cichlid-forum:
Males are unusually territorial, hunting for food around their own claimed rock, and defend their district against any intruder. It is suggested that males be kept with females in a ration of one male to three or even four females. This is because males are very aggressive to each other and females do not group together. P.flavus is best kept in an aquarium of 75 gallons or larger

edit: changed are to aren't, hate it when I miss stuff like that.

cheers, i'll add that cichlid forum to my favourites, it is a good site when i remember to ckeck.

I'll ask them too order some Borleyi in, they might have done already, apparently, one of them coloured up and they just kept selling.
