So, one of my tanks is fully cycled, and I filled up my cleanup crew with 5 nerite snails, another cory, and a slew of cherry shrimp. I heard they bred in captivity well and were better cleaners than amano shrimp. I didn't realize till the LFS guy put them in the bag how small a lot of them were. A few were around 3/4ths of an inch, but some were as small as 1/4th of an inch.

Possible culprits: Zebra Danios, Glowlight Tetras, and a DAF. I think it's pretty unlikely the Corys ate them, but I guess it's possible.

When I placed them in the tank, I put them all in extremely large, almost impassible clump of plants. Some glowlights were looking at them closely, but I didn't see any immediately snapping at them. When I came back home I couldn't find a single shrimp. Mind you, with how small they are, they could be hiding, but something surely got the bulk of them.

Any ideas?

If they are small the best place to look would be your filter. I've had many small shrimps get in the filter. Also they could just be hiding. I have 4 large amano shrimp and sometimes it's hard to find 2 of them, they hide in the wood and other places i cant see.

wait till they start dying and comming back to life lol

Yeah they love to hide. I suspect they will be under rocks bog wood etc. That is where mine spend all their time. You will only see them often if you have a very heavily planted tank.

Thanks guys. You were right and I was being a bit too hasty. At least some of them are still alive.

That said, while the Zebra Danios and the DAF don't seem to pay any mind, the glowlights are certainly trying to eat them any time they actually swim into the water table. The cherry shrimp seem fast enough that they can avoid being eaten, but it makes me nervous. Maybe I should exchange the Glowlights for the Neons in the other tank.

hi
a filter could suck them in if teeny but when we first got amano shrimps over 4 yrs ago we went for about 9 months with never seeing more than 4 so assumed that No 5 had died ages before until one day i spotted the little gang of 5 on top of the filter having grown enormously & looking quite happy so you have a good chance they will reappear at some time they are VERY good at hiding.
