What are they??

I have just bought 2 fish from my local pet shop, they named them as Golden Sharks but since ive got them home and tried lookin them up on the internet i have drawn a blank, They are about 3 inches long and are a silver/gold colour with a black line running down its body and onto its tail, i have tried takin pictures of them but every time i go near the tank with the camera they hide, They are a similar shape to the Rainbow sharks but the fins are the same colour as its body and the dorsal fin is further back on its body..... Ihope some one can help

I'd say a silver shark. How big a tank are they in? Because they grow biiig.

I did a search for 'Golden Shark' and a few sites gave reference to a few different species.

Siamese flying fox, look further down on this page at the Apollo Shark, Red Finned Cigar Shark too.

Any of those look like it?

Thanks for the replies but no they are not Bala sharks as i have 2 of them and they are not the Iridescent sharks as i have 2 of them as well......
i have been on many sights lookin at different sharks but still cant find them

Thankyou canoechiq, i just looked at the sites u posted and they are Apollo sharks, funny thing is though my bala sharks were sold to me from the same shop as them and they had them named as apollo sharks.... i wont be buying fish from here again....

I wouldn't write off buying fish from that shop just because they don't always get the names right. If the fish are healthy, the supply is decent, prices are reasonable... give them your support. I would let them know they made a mistake and I would correct them on it. Hopefully they will feel really stupid and try harder to get their names right... embarrassing people works (sometimes...)

I hope that you've got a big tank. I have a pair of apollo sharks - they're about 11-12" each.

the tank with the sharks in is 2ft, am now lookin into getting a 4ft or bigger now i know what type of fish i have,

myself and a friend have bought several fish from this place and had to post on this site to find names etc of them, when i have found out about them i have been into the shop and told them and to be honest they arent bothered, they also know what tanks we have both got and continue to sell these fish which are going to grow too big

i have bought guppies from there before and within days they have all died so their stock isnt always healthy my self and my friend have problems with sick fish in the past all from the same shop,

9 inch's for the bala, witch should be in groups.
20 od inchs for the Apolo.
52 0d inchs for the Iridescent sharks

It not all your LFS falt, you should find out about the fish you buy before you buy them. I get anoyed with people 100% trust and relie on there LFS, I mean for god sake, can't people pick a blasted book.

apollo sharks max out at aorund 12" aswell, and balas can evetually get to 12" aswell.
