Its awful, i hate it when people just are lazy and dont research before they do things. But not to have a filter is just stupid thats just common sense. I feel bad for those poor fish.

As a newbie, I was totally unaware of what was involved in getting a tank cycled and ready for fish when I bought one for my wife for Christmas. I think the LFS people need to do a better job of informing people when they buy equipment. Most people definitely don't have the patience to wait 4 to 6 weeks for a tank to properly cycle without fish. They want to see something swimming around. I was fortunate enough to be able to call a friend who has had a tank for a couple years and get advice. He gave me some plants, an old filter and a couple other items from his established tank to at least get a head start on builting a bacteria colony. I guess the LFSs just want the sale.

Why not? My emails get flooded with spam (ooh dear, I knew I shouldn't be watching the monty python spam sketch), so if he wants to keep fish in such spammy conditions, why not?
