i'm currently treating my 10 gallon tank for an outbreak of dropsy. my poor male betta died of this before i could treat  anyways i was wondering how effective maracyn plus was at treating this infection. i have one more treatment to go and a couple of guppies seem to still have a little bit of scales sticking out. any suggestions?

The success rate is usually not very high. However there is the possibility that some will make it. It also depends on how soon you have caught the dropsy if you catch it early, there is often a better chance.

yeah unfortunatelty dropsy is very very hard to treat :-(

good luck

thanks! today was the last treatment. so far only one guppy died and my poor betta. i put some aquarium salt in too to help.

how do you know if it's gone from my tank?
and do i have to do a water change before treating again if need be? (the bottle doesn't say)

It's probably best to do a water change, just to give them some fresh water to deal with. Well dropsy is when a fish gets big because there is fluid in it. It would be gone when the fish look like they've slimmed down and the scales are not protruding.

Dropsy a build up of fluid organ failure, once scales stick out they rarely make it sorry.

thanks for all your advice. update: everyone seems to be doing very well, no more signs of popping scales. Even though it's hard to tell with fat pregnant guppies  thanks again
