i have four air pumps each with 8 outlets, now i want to buy 1 big air pump to run all my tanks, what sort of air pump should i be looking to buy? i want a air pump that will do atleast 20 160 litre tanks!

Look into a small linear pump. I'm running an Alita AL-60; http://www.angelsplus.com/Alita.htm

I'm running 50+ outlets, and still bleeding off air. It's quieter than the handful of small pumps I had running, and puts out more air. If my power goes out I plug one device into my generator, and the fishroom is filtered.

Try the tetratec range. I currently have a tetratec APS 150, but you can get bigger or smaller ones to suit other sizes of tank. They are really quiet and the bigger one you get the more air out puts you can have so there is no need to get an adaptor if you get a bigger more powerful one if your tank is big.

Good luck,

The largest Tetratec, the APS400, is rated for a tank in the 250-600 liter range. We are looking at 3200 liters of tank minimum here. You would need 6 of these pumps, minimum. They seem to be going for around $40 US, guesstimating the exchange rate. You can get a better single pump for less than $240.
