What Are Some Cool Home Made Tank Decorations ?

We usually buy big hunks of slate (you can get it in red or a grey color) and break it up. Then use aquarium silicone to make different things. We do that with reptile tanks also. I might have a picture of one of those just to give you an idea.

What we used there was a flagstone of some kind. You wouldn't want to use that in water. You'd end up with nothing in a year or so.

what is flagstone?

Flagstone is a soft kind of rock that will easily erode. I DON'T recommend it for fish tanks or use around water. The picture there is a reptile tank.

What you should use is Slate. The picture is just a suggested building idea. I've had Drift wood in my tank for about 2 years now and it hasn't caused any problems. It's great for algea growth and java fern.

Smash up a china flower pot (or 'accidentally' trip over one in the garden ;) and make a cave or two from the fragments.

A few rocks from the beach should be fine too if you scrub them, soak them and boil/bake them (careful, they stay hot for ages), to get the salt out- chuck a bit of vinegar on it if in doubt- if it bubbles at all then don't use it.

Few bits of bogwood (don't use driftwood from the beach- too salty).

Add a few plants, and you're away. Broad dark leafed plants tend to last longer and grow better than delicate but good looking light green ones.

salty from beaches what about from bays and lakes as far as i know its not salty lakes
