Just bought a new tank, going to buy a betta soon as its ready, what i want to know is what are ideal surroundings? heavy planted? light planted? dark gravel? sand?
want it to be comfortable as i can, using a UG filter so water flow should be fine for it.

any suggestions welcome

or photos?

what size is your tank?
with the plants, its whatever you want, bettas tank to swim all over the tank when kept on their own so have sufficient swimming space,i would suggest tall plants at the back and sides and maybe a few smaller plant at the front, or just toss some javamoss in there and it will grow no probs.sand or gravel, your choice, if your bettas dark in color, try light gravel so he will stand out,and if hes light, dark gravel.or snad if you prefer. they are lots and lots of different betta tank settings, try looking on different betta post where they will have pic of betta tank, that might give you some ideas, here are some other peoples aquariums i have seen on other forums to give you an idea.

Thanks for excellent reply! tank size is L 46cm W 26cm H 30cm

My plan is to have heater in back as usual and hide with tall plants, then like you say one or two at front.

Think i will go for dark gravel too seems to suit the fish better no matter what the colour of fish.

sorry I can't get a pic but my tank has, on one side, 2 bushy plants in the back (corners) and one in dead center (same type as others). The other sie has the front right corner with that bushy plant and a nice leafy plant in the other corner so he can sleep. No gravel but open floor for easy cleaning

Mine's lightly planted with dark blue gravel. :) I think it looks nice. It depends on the color of your betta though. You should get a gravel color that complements your betta's color.
