I couldn't resist this guy at the lfs. He is very tiny, about 2cm. He was is a 80 gal tank and at least half of the fish in there could easily eat him crazy.gif . He was really fast and it took the guy forever to catch him laugh.gif . I'm thinking he is some sort of badis, but he is blue and the shop only sells scarlet badis. I posted in tropical chat and was told to post here. Any ideas?

after searching i'd agree with you and say its a lombardoi too, looks exactly like the ones on the net to me. but like you i am probably wrong lol i dont know much about fish and have only googled! :)

It's probably a Lombardoi - difficult to be sure at that size, could also be P.Zebra, P.Elongatus or even one of the C.Afra species. Either way, your Platys are in for a shock i'm afraid - Mbuna are not community fish.

Lol, yeah the guy at the store said it might be a little African, but they still rang him up as a badis. I decided to take the risk since he was so small. Right now he is in with 2 corys, 1 female betta, 3 female swordtails, a bunch of cherry shrimp, and some swordtail fry in a 20 gal tank. So far he has been very peaceful and hasn't caused any problems. I sorta got him for free since I took in 5 young rainbows that I raised and got a bunch of store credit for them. Anyway how quickly will he grow and any ideas on when he will start acting aggressive?

thanks,
Mikaila31

With good food and pristine water conditions you can expect him to grow fairly quickly. Most mbuna are herbivores and should be fed accordingly. You should really start seeing aggression once he reaches sexual maturity, around the 2" mark for most mbuna.

i have a few lombardoi in an african cichlid tank. very aggressive...poor platy lol
