I have a 16 gallon (US)/ 60 Litre tank that has cycled and hoping to put guppies or maybe platy in. (O and have a high Ph of around 8-8.2)

how many should I add as dont want to be vastly overstocked if they start breeding when old enough and what male/ female ratio is suitable?

I would also like some type of algae eater but not really sure what would be a good option?!?

Any help is greatly appreicated

Cheers

Matt

a bristlenose plec or ottos (i cant remember BNs minimum tank size so I may be wrong)

i dont like otos in small tanks, they eat too much algae too fast and if they dont take prepared foods they may starve. Look into amano shrimp.

I agree-get some amano shrimps as they are no bother. I find with mine though that if there is too much other food around they will take that first and browse on the algae after. I couldnt believe how quick they finished my algae off-non stop eating machines !!!!!!

Amano shrimp would be a great addition, before I had the amanos I had a parotocinclus which was a great algae eater :good:

I have 2 false siamese algae eaters with my guppies and they get along fine (I have read they should not have 2 to a tank but they have been good over months. Stay away from the Chinese Algae Eaters, I had 2 before (I have now done research here and not taken the LFS advice and found out how bad they were) and they went back to the shop after a few months. They were being nasty to my other fish (guppies and tetras) and eachother.

thanks for all the feedback everyone a real help

cheers
