Following on from my thread in the emergencies section I wondered how old Gourami's live to?? Most of my Gourami's are between 3 - 6 years of age and my oldest one has cloudy eyes and a fat belly! He eats well and swims ok and has been like that for about six months now. Could this just be old age?

it is dependant on the type of gouramis. on average its 4-5 years i would say. that couldy eye could be cured. so as the bloating. doing so would prolong your fish's life rather than leave it being sick for half a year.

Hi

Thanks for the reply

I've tried several different treatments to cure the fish, it is the only one thats bloated and the only one with a cloudy eye. It eats well and swims well, shows no outward signs of any disease. Its bloated but the scales aren't sticking out and its colour is good. At first I thought it was constipated so fed it crushed up peas and gave the fish garlic. I've continued to give them peas as a treat twice a week. I've also used esha 2000 and give them a dose of optima.

Do you have any other suggestions?

the peas would help, but you could get med directly from your lfs. adding some aquarium salt would help aswell.
