Firstly, a single dwarf wouldn't be lonely - male gouramies are generaly solitary, territorial fish and preffer to have the tank to themselves - much less stressful. So that shouldn't be a problem. :)

Anyway, I'm not sure you were reffering to a dwarf gourami though. By blue, I would think you mean three-spot? Trichogaster trichopterus? Yes, you could keep one in a 10 gallon but you can't realy keep much else with it and it might be a little bit cramped as these fish CAN swim very quickly. Normaly they are quite lazy though. I'd go for a male opaline myself - they are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of the three-spot varieties and the males have stunning fins.

Just to make something clear - there is precious little you can keep with a male three-spot (or most any three-spot) in such a limmited space. That doesn't only discount gouramies but most other fish as well. Especialy avoid anything with long fins or that occupies the upper layers. Honestly, the only fish I'd risk is maybe a small algae eater of some kind - maybe a very small plec or a couple of otos. Keep in mind the gourami will get to 6"...

Some other possible tankmates are various shrimp in a heavily planted tank or a snail.
