Since there have been a few threads about the different bogwoods/driftwoods lately I was wondering about dried grapevine. I have seen some in one of my LFSs and it looks good and is considerably cheaper than the African woods. Any one ever use it? Does it sink by itself or need help?

Thanks,

Greg

ive never heard of such a thing... i cant even find any thing about it on google, as long as its not parameter altering, it should be ok.... :dunno:

I work in an aquarium store and tried soaking some of our grapevine used for reptile applications and found that its horribly bouyant.

Well, this solves the problem for me. I found this after much digging:

Grapevine should not be used in aquariums. It cannot handle the excessive water and will cause problems down the road. It rots and grows mold, algea, and generally looks like crap after a while. It should only be used in reptile habitats.
Stick to driftwood only in an aquarium.

I agree with Steve, I had the same problem years ago. Grapevine wood is supposed to be used for reptiles, not in aquariums. My suggestion is.........get it out!!!

This is from aquariacentral.

So, grapevine is a no go.
