What are your opinions on adding a couple of these to my 125 gallon tank? I'd get a few to allow for pairing. I keep my water toward ph8-8.2, which is what my buffer provides. Do you think they'll thrive? I have a ton of algea growth...I read they like to eat the algea and pic at little organisms in it.

what other fish will be in the tank with them?
Is the tank established, ie: has the filter been cycled yet? if not then don't add any fish until it is cycled. Ammonia becomes very toxic in alkaline water and if the PH is 8.2 any ammonia will be lethal to the fish.

But in general goby cichlids are nice fish. They are pretty peaceful for cichlids and will breed if you get a pair. They are just a little pricey in some areas.

Sorry, I was guessing peple might've noticed all the chat on here every now and then about my 125 gallon tank journal. It's cycled... :good:

Right now it's pundamilia nyererei, a couple yellow labs, and cynotilapia afra cobue....may add a few more....metriaclima estherea, metriaclima greshaki, ps. socolofi "albino", an albino bristlnose, few mulitpunctis.

Yea...I'd have to save awhile for them. $50 bucks a fish!!!!!!! :hyper:

the only fish I would be concerned about having a go at the goby cichlids would be the metriaclima estherea & greshaki. The other stuff should be fine with them.

Thanks!! The Congo Orange version on the Rocky mountain site is really stunning!!

I'll look into the other kinds!!

Colin: Why do you say the Greshaki and Estherea would bother them and not the others?

It sounds like I should either get a "proven pair" or just one. Otherwise they don't tolerate other species....I guess I'll get 1 because I imagine getting a proven pair may be difficult.

actually if you call RMC and ask them if they have any pairs that they're wanting to get rid of, they just might. If not, ask them if they know if any other breeders that are prone to selling off pairs.
BOB @ RMC has an amazing fish room in his basement and he'll cycle out pairs often.

They won't necessarily have a go at the goby cichlids but they would be the ones most likely to have a go at them. They are the biggest and they are typical zebras
