I posted a couple days ago about my jewel cichlids laying eggs but how after only a day the eggs were gone. I figured they ate them because everything I've read about eggs hatching it says they take 3-4 days.

Anyways for the last 2-3 days my female has been chasing the male away everytime he got near her where the eggs once were. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why she was acting like this. The male has been swimming all around the whole aquarium all the day long. I was worried she was stressing him out and something was wrong with him.

They also have both become super aggressive towards me. The last water change I got bit a couple times by the male. Mind you he's so small now so it doesn't hurt and no blood is drawn.

Anyways ...so about 10 mins ago I was re-arranging the tank and then I thought I'd do a water change. I got the syphon in there and was nearing the female when I saw a clump of gray stuff and I nearly sucked it up. I pulled back though and leaned it and saw a whole clump of little wiggling fry :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

No wonder the parents have been acting the way they have been these last few days. I feel so guilty now for messing with the tank..moving things around. I hope I didn't stress them too much

So they didn't eat them afterall but I'm wondering why did the eggs hatch in only 1 day?? was it the heat? It's been the hottest days this last week in Sweden.

I can't believe I've had these fish for only 2 weeks and they have paired up and have already hatched fry :hyper:

Brilliant!! You lucky thing, mine definately ate her fry :/

Thanks everyone :D

That's too bad :/ Have you gotten fry since though? I wonder if mine will raise them or if the chances are still high that they will eat them -_-

They sure are tiny little things..the smallest fry I've ever seen

They sound georgous, you should post some pics if you can. Yes I'm sure mine have gone, never mind pehaps next time.

I don't even think if I took pictures they would show up :p They are just super small like little fruit flies

I'm not sure how many there are but my lfs said they would take them so I might try raising this batch. I'll leave them in the tank with the parents for awhile though.

What kind of cichlids do you have again?? convicts?

No I have a pair of sajicas, look at my post in the members pics. They are simply superb and I can't wait to see if they breed.
