I posted a couple days ago about my jewel cichlids laying eggs but how after only a day the eggs were gone. I figured they ate them because everything I've read about eggs hatching it says they take 3-4 days.
Anyways for the last 2-3 days my female has been chasing the male away everytime he got near her where the eggs once were. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why she was acting like this. The male has been swimming all around the whole aquarium all the day long. I was worried she was stressing him out and something was wrong with him.
They also have both become super aggressive towards me. The last water change I got bit a couple times by the male. Mind you he's so small now so it doesn't hurt and no blood is drawn.
Anyways ...so about 10 mins ago I was re-arranging the tank and then I thought I'd do a water change. I got the syphon in there and was nearing the female when I saw a clump of gray stuff and I nearly sucked it up. I pulled back though and leaned it and saw a whole clump of little wiggling fry
No wonder the parents have been acting the way they have been these last few days. I feel so guilty now for messing with the tank..moving things around. I hope I didn't stress them too much
So they didn't eat them afterall but I'm wondering why did the eggs hatch in only 1 day?? was it the heat? It's been the hottest days this last week in Sweden.
I can't believe I've had these fish for only 2 weeks and they have paired up and have already hatched fry
