OK so it seems my filter decided to leak last night. It leaked about 10 Litre of water which exited the cupboard and entered the carpet. The tank is on the 2nd floor so it has slightly leaked through 2 cracks in the ceiling downstairs. I've tried soaking up as much water as possible and made sure it can't leak again. Anyone got any advice?

are you sure it the filter and not the tank it shelf? if it the filter is it internal or external? check the rubbers on the filter if it's external, may be replace them or think about getting some selent? quick.

It's the filter, I changed the output pipe yesterday and I guess I knocked the top of the filter loose a bit. It's not leaking now though and I have sealed up the edges of the cupboard so it can't leak out. Just wondering if it'll dry up itself or not :/

i had alot of water come out my rena filter beofre. had to drain the tank and move it to clean the carpet. 10 litres is still a fair bit so you might have to do the same. its not fun moving a 185 litre planted tank

I would use a wet/dry vacuum on the carpet and put a dehumidifier in the room for a couple of days. It might be over kill...

I would go with Wolf's advice.

I had a similar problem setting my first tank circa 3.5years ago. The filters suction cups came off and the filter floated squirting the water out. The carpet was soaked. We went to Morrisons (yes the food place lol) who hire wet vacs out. we paid whatever it was for 24hours and basically did what we could. But do not over do it, go lightly.

If you can get as much air (opening windows) into the room, that will help.

Heheh our big SW tank leaked (well flooded) because of a powercut, over our carpet a few months ago and it turned from blue to pink! We just got a new carpet fitted and hope we don't have another one lol.

i had a home made external filter back up once lost 60 gallons on the dinning room floor
also lost some good fish as well never again learnt the hard way after that we turned dinning room
into the fish room wet n dry vac fan heater and a dehumidifier mine took a week to dry

good luck biff :(
