I got my delivery from Aquaessentials this week, and due to my Kribs producing a brood, I can't do the complete shake up of the tank I was planning. In the mean time, I did start dosing to the EI method.

To be quite honest, I'm astounded by the results.

In the three days since starting, I've seen a deepening of the plant colours, which is good. But the most amazing thing is the amount of pearling that is occuring. Before I would get a bubble a minute from my aponogeton and crypt, and that was only on water change day. For the last three days, a constant stream of bubbles rising from the plants, as long as the lights are on! A truly marvellous sight! :)

The fish seem a little bit more active as well, but that probably my imagination...

I`m planning on starting EI buit i`m dreading calulating the ammounts both for the mixture and for the doseing, is it easy once you get going?

Were you adding any ferts before changing to EI?

I was dosing Flourish once a week, and thats about it. P was at 2ppm at the start of the week (due to tap water), and fell off to 0 a couple of days later.

BigIan, it is quite straight forward, just keep thinking it through until it becomes second nature. Also there is a program, Chucks Planted Tank Calculator, which will calc weight to water ratio for your mixture. PM me with your e-mail, and I'll send it to you.

It is very easy. You can either add the ferts in solid form or do as I do and make up solutions. Take a look at my website where I detail exactly how I make up the solutions and dose. I have a 100ml measuring cylinder which I measure the correct amount in and then add it to the tank. For my traces I use an old Tropica Master Grow bottle which has a built in 10ml measuring cylinder. If you need to adjust for a different size tank then just modify the amount of ferts.
