:D been looking at other peoples tanks lately and seen that they all hvae black backgrounds sooooooo, im thinking of going down halfords and getting some spray paint but could i spray the tank with the fish in it? or would i have to take all fish out. Aaaah actually just ad an idea ill spray it when i move in a week or two. Anyone got any tips on spraying my tank?

actually, first try looking at the pre-cut backgrounds that most LFS/LPS sell. my "black background" is nothing more than the plain backing of a pre-cut background. much cheaper and less permanent than spray-painting the tank. my roomate and bf both don't like the black so i'll probably be switching it around the next major cosmetic overhaul. if i had spray-painted the tank, i'd just be stuck with the black!

If you decide to spray paint it black what happens if you get bored of it or don't like it? You'd be a bit stuck! If you try the search facility on the website or looking in the DIY section I remember reading a thread very recently on someone wanting to paint their tank and the types of paint to choose!
Try searching for acryllic on this site and see what it comes up with.

I've had lots of different backgrounds over the years but I like plain black the best. I've had black on my current tank for more than a year and can't see changing it. I think it looks great, especially with live plants. I am using a store-bought plastic background ATM but will probably paint mine when I have to move it. (sometime in 2006) If you do decide to paint yours, remove the hood and completely seal off the top of the tank using paper and masking tape. Do the same to protect the sides and anything else that you don't want to get paint on. No need to remove the fish IMO.
