Have just found out that i have voided the warenty on my juwel light unit by cutting out the switch. so iv got to fork out 100£ for a new one , what i want to ask is is there anything better that i could spend my money on insted of just getting the juwel unit? my tank is a rio 400 thank you people

am thinking about using overhead lighting. as wouldnt this offer better light quality. has anyone had experience of this???? what would i need to put over the top of the tank to stop fish jumping out ?

I'm still using the Jewel fitting in my tank but i've thought about what i would do if it failed which apparently they can do a lot.

Depending on how old your tank is it will either use the old t8 bulbs or the newer t5 ones. The newer ones give about 20% more light so it may be a worthwhile upgrade if you have plants, although you would have to buy new bulbs.

That said what I was thinking of doing if it fails was making my own lid for the tank using a suitable piece of wood and fitting as many lights as i wanted. I've not checked recently but i think the light fittings cost about £20 per tube so you could probably do the whole lot for about £50/60

Yer it is actually a new tank so i have the t5 lighting already. but the cost of a new unit seems so expensive . and yer likewise i have heard many people having similar problems so do i want to buy another one of the same lol , your suggestion of a DIY approach might be worth thinking about
thanks
