Hello firstly can i say thanks to everyone for the advice on many other topics but i need some more advice if possible, my tank finished cycling a week ago, so i added 5 black neons to start with, which have been in there for about 5 days

When i tested the water this morning the results read as follws

Ammonia - 0ppm

Nitrite - 2ppm

Nitrate - 40ppm

What does this mean ?

What can i do about it ?

Thanks for reading.

do 30-40% and i put the dechlorinater in the water whilst its in the bucket before its in the tank but i doubt it will make much of a difference as long as you put it in straight away.. :good:

Hi, I suspect over feeding :shifty:

Hi, I suspect over feeding :shifty:

I dont think it is over feeding becuse i have been feeding them every other day for the meantime. And only as much as they can eat none reaches the bottom of the tank.

It could be though ill keep an eye on it. :sly:

Thanks

I have to ask, how do you know your tank was cycled if you don't quite know what test kit results mean?

What did you do to cycle your tank?

I do know how cycling works.

To cycle my tank i just used a small amount of flake food every few days as a source of ammonia until the tank could change ammonia to nitrite then to nitrate within about a day or so

I just thought that it was strange how there was a sudden rise in nitrite without really any ammonia before it wondering what it might be.
