Alright so I have a question, my girlfriend is working on stocking a 50 gallon tank and well I would say 2 weeks ago put some driftwood in that her mom had for I think like 18 years. Well all the fish and stats haven't changes, everything seems to be just fine, except that only one of the few pieces she put it has this weir white, almost creamy looking stuff now growing on a small part of it. Does anyone know what this might be and if it'll start effecting the fish or anything??

I had something like this, but it was stringy. It was a water mold of some sort - I took the wood out and boiled it several times, then dried it thoroughly before putting it back. I don't know if it was harmful to the fish, but it almost took over the tank and looked like crap.

it is fungus that grows on the rotting wood. It is harmless and doesn't normally cause any problems. As Corleone suggested, you can take it out and clean it if you like. That will get rid of it.
