Two days ago I had 6 rummynose, now I can only find 5. Here's my question, I've been really sick for the past two days, so I fed my fish, but didn't do much observation on any tank. As far as I know he could have been dead for 48 hours. I honestly cannot find a body, but I don't want to stress out the whole tank by pulling all the plants to find him. Do you think that in this time period they could have completely cleaned the body, or would it be better to go in and look for it? I checked my params and they stayed steady and I just did a water change.
Sorry if I sound like a bad fish owner, that I didn't even notice he was gone, but I was really really sick  .

Quite possible - depends a lot on what else is in the tank.

Thats really wierd. I've never heard of rummys or discus acting aggresive like that... Is there any way he could have gotten himself caught in the filtration system or other hardware? Maybe he's stuck somewheres and can't get free...

fish hide well. You might find yourself suprised when he mysteriously shows up in a few days.

What decorations do you have. If he is not in the filter then is in a decoration or jumped out of the tank.

I've checked the filter and the rocks. I also looked around the tank...but I do have two cats, so if he flopped into open space, he was fair game I guess. I guess I'll just wait.
So the consensus is DON'T pull up the plants looking for the body?

I supposedly have 4 panda cories in my tank. I only ever see 2 at a time though but I have to assume they're all still there.

well you figure hes dead right? what good would it do, really, to pull up all your plants n junk? (now i dont know if your fish will eat the body or not) if they will, just leave it in there, if they wont well... if it affects your settings(params n ph n junk) then you might wanna look for it, if it doesnt bother anything wait for it to either come out(float) or be eaten... my 2cents i guess

Leave your plants alone, he'll either show up or disolve - just watch your water reading for real trouble and tell the remaining five that if they want to go missing that you aint looking for them either! :)

ALASKA

now then mate i should leave will alone and as already mentioned keep a watch on your water he will either apear or just get cleaned up no problems there

I've had dead fish missing for a couple of days also, but for some reason now, I cant fall asleep until I find the fish. I cant stand the thought of it rotting in my tank.

my brothers fish always disapear. he doesnt know were they are for like a week, then they come back. and if hes dead hes probly eaten already.
