 Hello,

Here is a weird question about java moss. Can it survive on dry driftwood?

Here is the situation. I got a small piece of drift wood from my local fish store for free as a present. It has been in the tank for at least 3 months and it was all good. I went on a vacation for 10 days and did not feed my fish anything when I came back this was growing on the drift wood it does not look like Algea it is only 5 long strings kind of like grass would grow, not longer than 2 inhes and it is growing slow... so asume it is not algea because of the speed it grows. Also it is only on my driftwood. I am thinking to take pics and post them here to id it but do you think it really could be java moss, it does look like pics of it. Kind of looks like this pic but only 5 strings http://www.aquamoss.net/Java-Moss/images/Java-Moss-03.jpg. Please let me know what you think,

Im just curiouse of it and if I should remove it or keep it

 Thanks

p.s. also im not sure how long the drifwood was sitting on a shelf in the fish store they usually sell stuff second hand for chiep so im assuming if they gave it to me for free it might of came out of some old tank :)

sorry guys the pic was not uploaded, i let that thing grow a little bit so i can take a better picture of it. So far it has not spreaded aroun it just sits on the drift wood, it is easy to remove I wanted to catch a snail that was hanging on it and when i took the snail out it pulled one branch from the driftwood with him. It also grows very slow. I will take a picture of it tomorrow and upload so I can see what you think.

 Thank you
